Intermediary Toolkit

Welcome

Welcome to the Intermediary Toolkit – a package of resources to help organisations that work with and support small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to promote the benefits of inclusive and open employment.

About this toolkit

Thank you for helping to bring employers and employees of all abilities together.

Small business and family enterprise in Australia account for almost 98% of businesses and small businesses employ 44% of Australia’s workforce1.

We know from research with small to medium enterprises (SMEs) that there’s a general desire among SMEs to employ people with disability, and when businesses do hire people with disability, experiences tend to be good. However, people with disability still experience unemployment at a much higher rate than other Australians.

We also know SMEs are time-poor and owners can wear many hats. While Government support and financial incentives are available to help SMEs employ a person with disability, many employers don’t know about the benefits and supports.

Intermediary organisations, such as industry and professional associations, business accountants, Chambers of Commerce and local community Facebook pages, are seen as trusted sources of information for SMEs.

Promoting the supports available to SMEs through JobAccess will help save employers time and money running job ads, and your efforts will result in good outcomes for business and communities.

What you can do

This toolkit provides resources that you, as an intermediary organisation, can use in your newsletters, website, social media and other communications with SMEs to promote the supports available to businesses to employ people with disability.

You can help promote these benefits and supports to SMEs by:

  • Adding content to your website.
  • Sharing posts and infographics on your social media.
  • Distributing the fact sheet, case studies and the JobAccess links amongst your SME networks.
  • Holding an event for SMEs about the benefits of open and inclusive employment.
  • Linking SMEs with JobAccess and the resources it provides whenever you can.
