Help from human resources

Some larger companies and organisations have a special ‘human resources’ department. Human resources help employers comply with laws on recruiting and managing staff, including people with disability.

The people in your human resources department can help you understand the organisation’s policies on employing people with disability. These people can often help you by:

  • answering your questions about your rights and responsibilities
  • arranging changes to your work area or methods
  • supporting you in discussions about flexible work arrangements
  • making suggestions for possible swapping of work tasks
  • arranging training on disability awareness for your co-workers
  • acting as a point of contact between you and your provider of Disability Employment Services.

If you have issues that you’re not comfortable discussing with your supervisor, it is generally best to talk to the people in your Human Resources department.
