New communication toolkit to promote disability employment to small to medium enterprises

18 February 2021

The Australian Government today launched a communication toolkit, to be used by intermediary organisations, to help build employer’s awareness of the supports available when hiring people with disability.

The Intermediary Toolkit is an online resource to help organisations who work with, and support, small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to promote the benefits of inclusive and open employment.

A research report conducted by the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia, outlined the needs of SMEs when employing people with disability. The report states almost 70 per cent of SMEs employing someone with disability experience a positive employment outcome for their business; and more than half said their experience was very positive. However, people with disability still experience unemployment at a higher rate than other Australians.

What does the Intermediary Toolkit include?

The Intermediary Toolkit provides a range of resources for organisations and groups who work with SMEs to promote the employment of people with disability, including:

  • social media posts;
  • links to available supports;
  • infographics; and
  • case studies.
