AccessAbility Day - connecting employers and people with disability to explore new possibilities in the workplace.

On 1 July 2018, the Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, the Hon Jane Prentice, announced the launch of AccessAbility Day 2018.

AccessAbility Day is an Australian Government initiative, providing an opportunity for both jobseekers with disability and employers to explore new opportunities in the workplace. It is a voluntary, obligation free day for employers to see the potential of a person with disability in the workplace and learn about available Government support. For people with disability, AccessAbility Day provides an opportunity to gain an insight into a new workplace or type of employment and establish new work connections.

AccessAbility Day is available to jobseekers with disability who are registered with a Disability Employment Services (DES) provider and looking for work. AccessAbility Day will be held nationally in the week 26-30 November 2018 – the week before International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

DES jobseekers and employers are able to take part in AccessAbility Day on any one day during the week, at a time mutually suitable to both parties.  Placement matches between employers and jobseekers will be organised by DES providers.

In 2017, AccessAbility Day was trialled in eight regional and metropolitan pilot locations across Australia. The pilot is considered a resounding success with more than 240 employers registered, collectively hosting more than 440 people with disability in their workplace for a day.
