Calendars

Calendars are a visual record of the year displayed in days or months. Calendars allow you to write reminders, notes and important information on the day you need to do the task such as medical appointments or job interviews.

Calendars are a useful means of organising, planning and memory prompting. They come in various forms:

  • 12 – 18 month paper calendars which usually display one calendar month at a time
  • paper diaries which can come in varying sizes including each page displaying individual days, two days to a page, a week to a page or an overview of the month or year
  • electronic calendars incorporated into a computer email program which allows for prompts to be sent regarding reminders of appointments
  • electronic calenders incorporated into some computer search engines which allow reminders to be sent via email, computer pop ups or text messages to a mobile phone. Displays can be set to the amount of time or days required, agendas available for individual days and a share facility to allow others to install appointments or important dates as required.

Workplace solutions and adjustments:

For people with disabilities affecting planning, organisational or memory skills, being able to remember work appointments, interviews or task scheduling can assist success and productivity within the workplace. Depending on the person’s work environment, either paper or electronic calendars are available. Automised prompting services can be programmed with electronic calendars as a reminder. Depending on the version, these reminders can be sent via email, pop ups on the screen or via text message (Google Calendar 2008; Brain Injury Association of Queensland 2007)
