Group Training Program

Group Training Organisations employ apprentices and trainees and then place them with a host employer, for as long as they are needed. Group Training Organisations are active in almost every industry and manage and monitor apprenticeships or traineeships.

They also help people find an apprenticeship or traineeship as an Australian Apprentice and can help people find a permanent job when they complete their apprenticeship or traineeship.

For employers, Group Training Organisations not only carefully select the right apprentice or trainee, they also:

  • handle the paperwork and payroll
  • provide ongoing support
  • provide flexibility to meet peak workloads and seasonal variations.

The extra support received from Group Training Organisations makes employment through these organisations an excellent option for people with disability and their employers.

For more information about Group Training or to contact a Group Training Organisation visit their web site (see our Related Links).

There are several Group Training programs that can assist people with disability:

Group Training Australian Apprenticeships Targeted Initiatives Program

This program enables Group Training Organisations to generate quality Australian Apprenticeship opportunities in priority areas that would not otherwise happen without intervention. This includes areas where the achievement of successful Australian Apprenticeship outcomes requires additional time, resources or development effort. For more information about this program, see our Related Links.

Group Training in the Trades Prevocational Program

This program assists eligible people to undertake an Australian Apprenticeship in the trades. It creates opportunities by:

  • providing eligible participants with pre-vocational training in the trades to gain pre-requisites to articulate into an Australian Apprenticeship in the trades; or
  • allowing students to undertake an Australian School based Apprenticeship in the trades while still completing their year 11 and 12 higher school certificate at school.

Particular focus is given to trade areas experiencing skill shortages or areas where Australian Apprenticeships in the trades are being under-serviced, especially through Australian School Based Apprenticeships. People from various equity groups, including people with disability are eligible for this program. For more information about this program, see our Related Links.
