From 1 January 2007 the Work Experience Placement (WEP) program will provide employers with a great opportunity to see how someone operates in a working environment. The program also provides job seekers with the opportunity to improve their work skills, and to be able to demonstrate what they have to offer to a potential employer.
The Australian Government, through the Work Experience Placement program, will meet the cost of work-related insurance for eligible job seekers to help overcome one of the main problems when organising work experience.
Employers will not be required to pay someone who participates in WEP. However, if they decide to employ a participant, they may simply end the WEP and then enter into an employment relationship with them.
Work Experience Placements can be between 5 days and a maximum 8 weeks long.
