Release of mental health discussion paper

On 14 April, the Hon Brendan O’Connor MP, Minister for Employment Participation, and the Hon Bill Shorten MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services, released a discussion paper which calls for submissions to the National Mental Health and Disability Employment Strategy.

The Strategy is being developed as part of the Government’s Australian Social Inclusion Agenda. The release of the discussion paper reflects the Government’s commitment to develop the Strategy in close consultation with people with disability and/or mental illness, peak bodies, employers, state and territory governments and experts.

The Strategy aims to address the barriers faced by people with disability and/or mental illness that make it harder for them to gain and keep work.

How you can be involved

The aim of the discussion paper is to make sure everyone has the opportunity to tell the Government, based on their experiences and knowledge, what barriers exist and what needs to be done to address them.

The discussion paper provides instructions and examples of how you can submit your ideas and also outlines the background and purpose of the Strategy.

To get a copy of the discussion paper and to find out more about how you can contribute, visit the Strategy website (link will open in a new window).

Keep checking the Strategy website for any updates and useful information.
