From interview to employment—assistance for Deaf job seekers

1. Interview Auslan interpreting assistance—A Deaf job seeker or employee may receive Auslan (Australian sign language) interpreting assistance for employment interviews for a 12 month period through the Auslan for Employment (AFE) program. There is no limit to the number of employment interviews Deaf job seekers can attend. If you or someone you know is Deaf and may benefit from Auslan interpreting assistance at employment interviews, please contact a JobAccess Adviser to confirm eligibility and find out how to apply for assistance.

2. Workplace modifications—An employer of a Deaf employee can receive assistance through the Workplace Modifications Scheme (WMS) to modify the workplace to assist a Deaf worker. Examples of modifications or specialised equipment that can assist Deaf workers may include alarm lights, warning signs, vibrating pagers and specialised computer packages.

You can find information about Auslan For Employment or the Workplace Modifications Scheme on this wesite. You can also contact a JobAccess Adviser on 1800 464 800 (this is also TTY) or through the online enquiry form:
