No two people experience disability in the same way. As an employer, you are not expected to be the expert on disability. There are resources and services available to help you.
The employment specialists
Australian Government employment service providers are a national network of community and private organisations dedicated to placing people with disability into employment. Their services are free to employers.
Disability Employment Network
Disability Employment Network members specialise in providing initial and ongoing support when you employ a person with disability. They can help you find the right person for the job and then support you both through the ongoing employment process.
Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Vocational Rehabilitation Services assist people who have a disability, injury or health condition work independently in the open labour market. They can help you employ a person whose skills and abilities match the requirements of the job and then support you both in the new role.
Job Network
Job Network operates as a free recruitment service with a national network of sites across Australia. As an employer, you deal with a local team and receive specialised recruitment services.
National Disability Recruitment Coordinator
If you are a larger employer or a multi-site employer, you might find it difficult to deal with numerous localised Australian Government employment services when recruiting your staff in bulk. The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator offers a single point of contact for the recruitment of employees with disability.
