What service standards to expect

Employment service providers, such as Vocational Rehabilitation Services, are available to provide help and support to employers of people with disability. If you are receiving assistance from a Vocational Rehabilitation Service Provider then you can expect and should receive a high level of service.

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations monitors the way employment services are delivered and all employment service providers must meet the standards of service and behavior set out in the Employment and Related Services Code of Practice and Service Guarantees.

Employment and Related Services Code of Practice

Employment service providers, including Vocational Rehabilitation Services, must deliver services in a manner that:

  1. upholds the integrity and good reputation of the service
  2. demonstrates a commitment to job seekers
  3. is accurate and relevant
  4. is communicated clearly and effectively
  5. encourages feedback without bias.

Copies of the Employment and Related Services Code of Practice are available from your local Vocational Rehabilitation Services provider.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services Service Guarantee

Vocational Rehabilitation Services must provide a guaranteed level of service to people with disability.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services' professionally qualified staff will assist people with disability to manage the effects of their injury, disability or health condition and use their skills to gain safe and sustainable employment.

People with disability will receive comprehensive, personalised Vocational Rehabilitation Services that combines vocational rehabilitation with employment assistance. These services will be sensitive to personal circumstances and background and tailored to individual needs and abilities.

When working with employers, Vocational Rehabilitation Services will:

  • provide practical assistance to the job seeker when applying for jobs or attending interviews
  • provide information to potential employers about extra assistance available, such as workplace modifications, to help them employ a person with an injury, disability or health condition
  • once a person with disability is in a job, Vocational Rehabilitation Services:
    • assess the workplace to ensure the person can do the job safely
    • support the person with disability while settling into the job
    • provide information, support and training to the employer
    • work with the person with disability and potentially the employer to resolve any problems at work
  • depending on the eligibility of the person with disability, assist the person and the employer to access support services including workplace modifications and the wage subsidy scheme.
