What service standards to expect

Australian Government employment service providers, such as the Disability Employment Network members, are available to provide help and support for employers of people with disability. If you are receiving support from a Disability Employment Network member you can expect and should receive a high level of service.

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations monitors the way employment services are delivered and all Australian Government employment service providers must meet the standards of service and behaviour set out in the Australian Government employment service providers Code of Practice and Service Guarantees.

Australian Government employment service providers, including Disability Employment Network members, must deliver services in a manner that:

  1. upholds the integrity and good reputation of the service
  2. demonstrates a commitment to job seekers
  3. is accurate and relevant
  4. is communicated clearly and effectively
  5. encourages feedback without bias.

Disability Employment Network service guarantee

Disability Employment Network members must provide a guaranteed level of service to people with disability. 

All Disability Employment Network members are assessed by trained auditors as meeting the Disability Services Standards. People with disability will be treated as a valued individual and provided with opportunities to contribute to decisions that help them to get or keep a job.

The privacy of people with disability will be respected and the Disability Employment Network member will treat any information given to them as confidential and, where information is shared, this will be done in accordance with the law.

The services provided will be appropriate to personal circumstances and background, as well as tailored to individual needs and abilities.

When working with employers, Disability Employment Network members will:

  • approach employers directly for employment opportunities, with the permission of a job seeker with disability
  • provide information to potential employers about extra help available to help them when they employ a person with disability
  • provide practical assistance when the job seeker applies for jobs or attends interviews
  • continue to provide support to a person with disability if needed, including:
    • support while settling into the new job
    • on the job training
    • information, support and training for the employer
    • working with a person with disability and the employer if appropriate to resolve any problems at work
  • depending on the needs of a person with disability, help an employer to access a range of other support services including workplace modifications and the Supported Wage Scheme.
