Auslan interpreting and co-worker training

When you employ new staff, the right person for the job might be someone who uses Auslan (Australian Sign Language) to communicate.

The Auslan For Employment program maximises the ability and independence of new Deaf employees to find work or existing Deaf employees whose continued employment is at risk.

How will the Auslan For Employment program help me?

As an employer, you may be eligible for financial assistance to help with the cost of Auslan interpreting services for Deaf job seekers, new Deaf workers and existing Deaf employees. You may also be eligible to have staff members who work with a Deaf employee trained in Auslan and undertake Deaf Awareness training.

Types of assistance

Auslan for Employment assistance consists of three levels:

  • Level 1: Auslan interpreting and Deaf Awareness training in the workplace for Deaf employees, including travel assistance for interpreters where eligible.
  • Level 2: Auslan interpreting for employment interviews for Deaf job seekers.
  • Level 3: Assistance for co-workers of Deaf employees to undertake studies in Certificate II Auslan (nationally recognised) courses.

You can apply for one or all of the three levels of assistance.
