Your rights and responsibilities

Employers and employees both play a role in making sure that a workplace is safe, fair and free from discrimination.  When you work with a person with disability, you may have some questions about your rights and responsibilities and the rights and responsibilities of your co-workers and employer.

Safety
Occupational Health and Safety law requires employers, employees, contractors and the self-employed to ensure their own health and safety as well as the health and safety of others affected by their work activities.

Emergency procedures
Procedures for fire and other emergencies should always include provisions for the evacuation of people with disability.

Discrimination
Under equal opportunity and anti-discrimination laws, your employer is required to create a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.

Disclosure
Disclosure is a choice a person makes about whether to tell another person or organisation information about their disability.
