Cranes—truck-mounted

Truck mounted cranes are cranes that can be mounted on the back of a commercial truck to assist with lifting requirements within the workplace. They range in lifting capacity and boom extension lengths which relate to the appropriate sized vehicle for installation. They are generally compact (fold up) and require minimal mounting space. Generally truck mounted cranes offer hydraulic operation of the following features; rotation, elevation, extension, maneuverability and winch. They are generally operated from controls mounted on the side of the truck or possibly through use of remote control.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

For people with disability that restricts their capacity to lift and manouvre items, truck mounted cranes may be of assistance to minimise work lifting requirements. Features to consider include (but are not limited to): lifting requirements, method of operation, vehicle available for mounting the crane, requirement for manual or hydraulic operation of the stabilisers, extension and flexibility requirements of the boom and whether on or off road use is required (Cranetech 2007; Venturo 2007; IMT 2007).
