A portable telephone coupler increases the volume and sound clarity of standard telephone handsets.
A small portable device attaches to the earpiece of the telephone (handset style) and amplifies the incoming sound. It is an alternative to using a volume control phone. It is hearing aid ‘T’ coil compatible. Portable telephone couplers are able to be used with payphones, cordless or mobile telephones (Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program 2007; Independent Living Centres Australia Inc. 2007).
Workplace solutions and adjustments
A portable telephone coupler may be useful for persons with a hearing impairment who need to travel or use a variety of telephones for their work.
The telephone coupler amplifies the incoming voice from the telephone and improves its sound clarity, which is particularly useful in noisy surroundings. It is suitable for use with or without a hearing aid (Independent Living Centres Australia Inc. 2007).
