Training for employment service providers

Training refers to the process of skill development for a particular purpose (learning how to do something). Training can also be used to increase awareness and understanding.  It can be done on the job, off the job (that is, a course of study) or a combination of both.

Training courses can vary in the way they are delivered, depending on the needs of the learner:
  • assessable (work needs to be completed to pass) or attendance only
  • flexible, self paced (for example, via the Internet) or structured
  • part time or full time
  • short (that is, a few hours) or longer in duration (that is, over a year).

There are also many different types of training courses currently available for employment service providers:

  • accredited certificate and diploma vocational courses
  • disability awareness training courses
  • industry specific short courses
  • refresher courses (for example, first aid)
  • staff induction courses.
