Disability related training can improve the disability confidence of your organisation. It raises awareness of disability and diversity issues in the workplace and, because one in five working age adults in Australia have a disability, it can help you and your staff understand the needs of your customers with disability.Training itself refers to the process of skill development for a particular purpose (that is, learning how to do something). Training is also used to increase awareness and understanding.
Training can be done on the job, off the job (for example, a course of study) or a combination of both. Training courses can vary in the way they are delivered, depending on the needs of the learner:
- assessable (that is, work needs to be completed to pass) or attendance only
- flexible, self paced (for example, via the Internet) or structured
- part time or full time
- short (for example, a few hours) or a longer duration (over a year).
