A talking tape measure is available which is battery powered, push button operated and reads out the required measurements to the nearest millimetre to alleviate the need to read fine print numerals. Readings can be given in metres, centimetres or millimetres, with the tape measure having a memory component if consecutive measurements need to be added.

For people with vision impairment reading a standard tape measure when measuring up a project or task for work can be challenging. Inaccuracy in measurements can result in tasks being assembled wrongly which can be costly and affect productivity.
