Training providers

Training itself refers to the process of skill development for a particular purpose such as learning how to do a specific work task. Training can also be used to increase a skill base to allow for role development and promotion within the workplace.

Training can be done:

  • on the job either by internal staff or external trainers
  • off the job through a course of study or hands on training
  • self paced training via modules
  • a combination of both internal and external training such as traineeships and apprenticeships.

Training courses can vary in the way they are delivered, depending on the skills to be learnt and the needs of the learner including options such as:

  • assessable work needing to be completed to pass
  • pass issued for training based on attendance only
  • flexible, self paced learning usually via the internet
  • formal, structured training completed within a set timeframe
  • part time or full time
  • brief training such as over a morning, versus training sessions or courses lasting a week, or more formal training which may last 6 months or longer.

There are many government services and resources available to support employers, job seekers and workers, co-workers and employment service providers to assist with skill development and knowledge to achieve employment goals.
