Tool balancers and positioners

Tool balancers are devices that are designed to offset and support the weight of tools. Hydraulic, electric or pneumatic tools can be attached to either a spring style or other tensioning device suspended over the workstation which counters the weight of the tools. They are especially useful when working with heavy tools over long periods of time. They come in various styles and lengths of suspension cable depending on the specific types of tools used and can hold varying weight limits.

Tool positioners use an adjustable friction brake to place and hold an object in any position to support the weight of the suspended tool or object, and allow it to remain in that position. The object can be moved downward with very little effort, depending on the adjustment however the full weight of the object must be lifted to move it upward. Cable tension can be adjusted using either an adjustable knob, lever or by using a screwdriver.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

For people with neck, back or upper limb impairments or those with limited strength and endurance, working with heavy tools may be difficult. Tool balancers and positioners can assist in moving and supporting the weight of these tools or components, allowing the tool user to focus their energies on the work task.  Suspension of tools allows for less clutter at the workstation.
