Splints, supports, braces and slings

Splints, supports, braces and slings provide support to assist with the performance of many activities and tasks that place pressure on specific joints, limbs and muscles. They can be specifically designed to meet a person’s needs or purchased from chemists and other suppliers.  

Workplace solutions and adjustments:

Splints, supports, braces and slings can provide support and compression to specific joints, limbs and muscles when carrying out work requirements including:

  • walking
  • climbing stairs or ladders
  • cycling
  • carrying loads
  • squatting or
  • repetitive movements.

Professional advice should be sought from a physiotherapist or occupational therapist prior to the buying or wearing of a brace or support. This will ensure that a suitably designed support is recommended, appropriate instructions given for use and alternative treatments considered such as strengthening exercises.
