Sit-stand workstations adjust in height so that they can be used from either a sitting or standing position. They are useful for people who are unable to sit or stand for long periods and need to move between the two positions or for those that have work task requirements comprising working from both sitting and standing. Ergonomists suggest that alternating between sitting and standing can result in decreased discomfort and increased productivity.
Types of sit-stand workstations available include:
- adjustable height, mobile lap top stands
- adjustable surface angle
- small adjustable table style versions which can be mobile on castors
- wall mounted standing desks which can be adjusted in tilt and height and be folded away when not in use.
A range of drafting and sit-stand stools are available to accommodate changes in working posture:
Workplace solutions and adjustments
For people required to alternate between sitting and standing when working either due to a physical requirement to change posture regularly or due to the nature of the work tasks, sit-stand workstations can accommodate these changes in posture and eliminate the need for two workstations.
If a particular adjustable sit-stand workstation specific to a person’s disability is required within the workplace and is not something normally supplied by the employer under their Occupational Health and Safety requirements, consideration can be given to applying for funding assistance through the Employment Assistance Fund.
