Scaffolding

A scaffold is a temporary structure designed to support people and material while working on a building or structure.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

Structural components and welding of scaffolding must comply with Australian Standards. Scaffolds are used to work at heights using a platform, however, there is a risk of falls by the user. To minimise risks associated with working from scaffolds the user should:

  • ensure scaffold erection is completed by a qualified scaffolder
  • obtain training or certification regarding scaffolding
  • enable safe access via stairs or a ladder
  • use falls arrest systems such as safety harnesses if required
  • wear appropriate closed in and slip resistant footwear.
