Rubber edging can be fitted to hard or sharp surfaces to make contact with them less dangerous. Injuries sustained from edges of door frames, wall and table corners can be reduced by protecting surfaces with rubber edging. Rubber edging can usually be purchased in lengths and products are available in high visibility colours for easier recognition.
Rubber matting products of various densities and textures can be used on floor or flat surfaces to meet the same purpose, but cover larger areas. Rubber surfacing or edging can also be used around garden beds and around or under playgrounds as an alternative softer surface, in case of falls or scrapes.
Workplace solutions and adjustments
For people with conditions such as epilepsy or those that have difficulty controlling movement, rubber edging or matting applied to sharp or hard surfaces within their immediate work area, may reduce risk of bodily injury due to the rubber reducing the potential impact.
