PC scopes

PC (personal computer) scopes are instruments that can be attached to a computer to enable the individual to view an object on the computer screen at a greater magnification and in some cases control the scope using the computer.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

Microscopes can be linked to a computer to magnify the image of the object. This can be in the form of a microscope camera and a USB connection, or a specialised digital eyepiece that fits onto the microscope and attaches to the computer via USB.

Telescopes can also be linked to a computer to enable the individual to control the telescope using the computer.

PC oscilloscopes are also available for individuals who are required to test electronic equipment. The PC provides the display, controls, memory storage, networking and often the electrical power for the hardware.

Linking computers with scopes can prove beneficial for individuals with a range of disabilities in the workplace for several reasons including:

  • provision of a larger image for individuals with visual impairments
  • reduce the risk of back injuries from sustained stooping over to view equipment
  • easier use for a wheelchair user as easier access to view image
  • easier to control position of scope in some cases such as with a telescope.
