Cushions—lumbar support

Vehicle seat cushions are often used to provide added lumbar support to bucket style car seats where minimal lumbar support is available within the existing car seat. A range of styles and designs are available in vehicle lumbar supports and are worth trialing within individual vehicles to ensure practicality and comfort prior to purchase. Lumbar cushions are designed to be placed in position behind the ‘small of the back’ or the curve at the base of the spine and depending on design, may be secured to the car seat. They can be used within light, heavy and industrial vehicles.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

If a vehicle seat back rest is providing insufficient back support, consideration can be given to the following options

  • replacement of the seat
  • addition of a rolled up towel placed in the ‘small of the back’ or
  • use of an external lumbar cushion placed on the seat.
