Cranes are mechanical devices that can lift and move heavy items. For smaller or temporary jobs, the cranes can be mobile or truck mounted for on or off road purposes and are of assistance to people who are unable to lift without support. Fixed cranes are often used for larger jobs.
Workplace solutions and adjustments
The selection of the appropriate crane will depend of various criteria but will largely be dictated by the lifting requirements.
Some types of cranes will require the operator to climb vertical ladders or steps to access the cab. For people with disability that restricts capacity to lift and manouvre items within the workplace, the use of smaller truck-mounted or mobile cranes or other lifting equipment may be of assistance to reduce manual handling requirements.
