Alternative format production

Alternative format production provides an alternative to standard print. Alternative formats can be used by a wide range of people and can provide greater communication outcomes when integrated into mainstream communication strategies.

Some alternative format production may include:

  • tactual graphics which are raised line diagrams used for the production of maps or similar documents and include Braille legends and captions
  • bold print graphics which render diagrams into a format more easily used by people with low vision and often accompany large print versions of documents
  • e-text—there is a range of strategies that can be applied to ensure that electronic information is as accessible as possible. Strategies and approaches can be applied to the construction of documents on both websites and other documents such as Word, Rich Text, ASCII and more.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

People with vision impairment or difficulty reading and communicating may be able to maintain their independence and productivity in the workplace through the use of alternative format production.
