Attention and memory

The ability to selectively focus our thinking or attention on one particular task or work skill in order to learn and subsequently remember how to perform a task is an important requirement in most workplaces.

We can all be unfocussed or forgetful from time to time, especially when we are tired, preoccupied or distracted. However, for people with cognitive impairment including people with intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, specific learning disability, psychiatric disorder, dementia or neurological conditions, these abilities can be severely compromised, potentially leading to stress, social withdrawal and poor work performance.
